Singaperumal Koil Temple – A Divine Landmark Near Sterling Meadows
Just a few kilometers from Sterling Meadows, a fast-growing DTCP-approved residential layout near Oragadam and GST Road, lies one of Tamil Nadu’s most revered spiritual landmarks – the Singaperumal Koil Temple. Also known as the Padaladri Narasimhar Temple, this ancient site holds immense religious, historical, and architectural significance.
The Deity and Divine Origin of Singaperumal Koil Temple
The presiding deity here is Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu who manifested in a fierce form to destroy evil and protect his devotee, Prahlada. The temple, situated in the Kanchipuram district, is believed to be over 1500 years old and is one of the few rock-cut cave temples from the Pallava dynasty, dating back to the 8th century.
Vishnu took the form of Narasimha, with a lion’s head and human body, to kill the demon king Hiranyakashipu under specific cosmic conditions. The place where he appeared is called Padalathri, and the temple dedicated to this form is now famously called Singaperumal Koil Temple.

Spiritual Energy & Powerful Beliefs
It is believed that those affected by debt, marital delays, or doshas related to Mars, Saturn, and Rahu find immense relief after praying at this temple. The Azhinjhal tree behind the temple is believed to bless devotees with marriage, education, and children when they pray by offering sandalwood and kumkum.
The Ugra Narasimha idol is carved directly from the hill’s rock and is 8 feet tall. It has a third eye on the forehead – a powerful symbol of transformation and spiritual awakening. Devotees believe that seeing this third eye can end all forms of suffering.
Temple Architecture & Inscriptions
This temple showcases Pallava and Chola architecture, including ancient stone inscriptions dating back to the reign of Raja Raja Chola (985–1016 CE). Inside the sanctum, Lord Narasimha is seen in a seated posture, holding the chakra and conch, while the other hands are in Abhaya Mudra and Uru Hasta. His consort, Ahobilavalli Thayar, has a separate shrine.
The temple also features beautiful mandapams, Dwarapalas, and shrines for Andal, Vishwaksena, and Lakshmi Narasimha.
Festivals & Special Observations
The temple hosts grand celebrations including:
- Chithirai Brahmotsavam (April-May)
- Maasi Float Festival (Feb-Mar)
- Narasimha Jayanthi
- Sri Ramanuja Jayanthi
- Navaratri, Thirukarthigai, and Krishna Jayanthi
During the months of Margazhi and Thai, the sun rays directly fall on Narasimha’s feet, a rare and powerful spiritual sight. On Poornima days, circumambulating the hill is considered highly auspicious.
Daily Rituals and Timings
The temple follows the Vaikasana Agama tradition (Thenkalai). Four daily poojas are performed:
- Alangaram (decoration)
- Neivethanam (food offering)
- Deepa Aradhanai (lamp offering)
On Pradosham, special abhishekam is performed to Lord Narasimha.
